Greetings Lopes,

Welcome back!  I trust that each one of you has enjoyed your time off this summer and I know that each of you is gearing up for what will be an exciting 2013-2014 school year.

I wanted to remind you that our first day of school is August 12th.  The normal 2 meeting days prior to the start of school have been changed.  Both have been moved to the end of the school year, June 2nd and 3rs, 2014.  The campus will be open Monday (8/5) thru Friday (8/9) from 7:30 – 4:00. If you wish to pick up your keys, please arrive before 2:00 pm.  You are welcome to work in your classroom if you so desire.  We will have staff on hand to assist you as needed.

I am very excited to get to work with the Administrative staff that has been assembled at AVHS for the 2013-2014 school year.  Our Assistant Principal, Jodie Radford, is ready to lead our dynamic and cutting edge academic programs.  In addition, I am excited to work with Glen Darbeau (KHS), Brett D’Errico (back from HHS), and Ryan Branch (PxHS) as our Vice Principals.  Glen will oversee Activities, Brett will oversee Athletics and Alternative Placement, and Ryan will supervise Special Education.  This is a great collection of talented individuals and I know they are ready to get the year going.

The mission at AV for the 2013-2014 school year has not changed; we continue to focus on students being engaged in meaningfully rigorous activities, led by an staff committed to developing rapport with every one of our students.  I do not believe we can achieve the academic excellence we seek without also developing the relationships with our students that they so desperately need.  I know this staff well and I am convinced that each one of you is ready for the task.

I am excited to get this year started so that we can continue the process of reshaping this venerable school into a model of 21st century learning.
